The Spiral of Violence

The formation of the most right wing government ever in Israel seems to have brought back the memories of the old days of the conflict.
Mr. Ben Gvir, the Far right lawyer and politician under whose leadership the political party “Otzma Yehudit” (Jewish Power) has managed to win 6 seats, have at many occasions been accused of being a provocateur.

  • Apart from other things like defending Jewish radicals in trails which obviously is his legal right, he has been a controversial figure who has not only made several visits to the temple mount,
what many official say is an unnecessary provocation, spoken out against Palestinians, but has also continued to be associated with the Kahanist movement.
After being associated with the Moledet, a party which advocated for sending Arabs out of Israel, Ben later joined the even more radical Kach and Kahane Chai party,
which was later designated as a terrorist organization by the United states and an illegal organization by Israel.
This was the same party whose supporter massacred 29 Palestinians while they were praying at Ibrahimi Mosque in 1994, and Ben Gvir is said to have a portrait of the terrorist terrorist Baruch Goldstein in his home, which he only removed when he stood for elections.
Otzma Yehudit is said to have been created on the ideology of the former Kahane party and its core member are mostly the people which were the founding members of the Kahane party and they numbered less than hundred.

The reason this cycle of revenge is heading towards an unstoppable spiral is that neither of the parties would like to stop at this point. The Palestinians have already been living in blockaded territory for
the last 16 years where everything coming in and out is closely monitored. The living conditions have detoriated regularly over the decade and basic necessities such as clear water is scarce. The don’t have a military or even police to
fight, so they seem fed up with the occupation and killings of Palestinians including children by the Israeli defense force that they have started taking the law in their own hands.
The life of Palestinians is taken so casually by IDF where they get killed in minor scuffles or arguments with the IDF and get shot by snipper when they protest and move towards the fence. As reports previously indicated the IDF treats Palestinians just a shooting target. It had been seen that all IDF solider gets acquitted for a crime as serious as unprovoked murder in cold blood, and all of this has created a deep distrust among Palestinians
for the IDF, judicial system and the government of israel. The children of palistine born in or after 2000’s have practically seen their community living in fear, opression and injustice where the opressor controls
their every movement from moving arond their city, praying, what comes in and out of terretory, police, security, sudden over night raids to buldozing their houses. The situation even worstned after Donald trump outrighty supported Israel and shifted the US embassey from Tel viv to
jeruselum. Growing up in an environment where only the forcefull is ale to dictate how the weak has to live perhaps gives them an impression that there is noone to go to for justice and has thus made this generation believe that they have to stand up and take law into their hands. What they don’t realise
is, standing up to Israel even protesting at the sight of Israeli solders will only make them dead. The diminishing influence and legitimacy of the Palestinian authority is giving rise to a new generation of armed militias which are operating
independently with the help of smuggled weapons.Fed up with the living condition and occupation the Palistinian

On the other hand , Benjamin Netanyahu has again been elected as Prime Minister and now leads the most rightwing government in the history of Israel due to which the prospect of the conflict escalating to new levels
is high. Netanyahu is widely believed to be hostage to the demands of the extremist partners in his Government who in turn will help in overturning his corruption trial which is haunting him for the last few years and due to which his popularity had plunged.
Due to the uncertainty of politics and power in Israel which has seen 5 elections in the last 4 years, Netanyahu will definitely make it his priority to overturn & close his corruption case at the earliest hen he is still in power. Doing so would require to support
the extreme ways of the many far right people in his Govt. even though it would have been to extreme even by his own standards an year back. All this combined together has the potential for a spiral of violence again. One might think that it would not escalate since Palestinians
don’t have sufficient power to fight or even stand up to Israel, but individuals acting alone, whose parents or family members have been killed by Israel would be trying to do whatever they can and take revenge. We can only hope that both the sides act wisely and stop innocent blood from shedding.
